| Sheriff's Emergency Response Team (SERT) |
The Administrative Unit is responsible for all support services within the Byron Police Department (PD). This includes providing professional assistance to both the citizens of Byron as well as to the employees of the police department. In addition, this unit is responsible for all record keeping within the PD. The Administrative Unit works with the various courts to ensure the proper documentation is available when needed and is maintained accurately, safely, and efficiently. |

Crime prevention is a pattern of attitudes and behaviors directed at reducing the threat of crime and enhancing the sense of safety and security, to positively influence the quality of life in our society, and to develop environments where crime cannot flourish. Since the City of Byron was established in 1874 the Patrol Division has been the oldest division of the Police Department serving the citizens of Byron. The Patrol Division is the "police officer on the street." Click here for more information on the Patrol Division. |

The goal of the Specialized Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) is to reduce traffic accidents and deaths through the stringent enforcement of traffic laws. A major goal of the STEP unit is the reduction of DUI offenses and aggressive driving. The STEP unit also provides assistance to all other divisions within the Byron Police Department, as well as other law enforcement agencies. The Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE) Unit goal is to diminish criminal activity by utilizing traffic enforcement and criminal patrol techniques on Interstate 75 and on the city’s highways and surface streets. This unit also provides assistance to all other divisions within the Byron Police Department, as well as other law enforcement agencies. Click here for more information on the (ICE) Unit. |

K-9 Unit. In 2009, the Byron Police Department acquired two European imported Belgian Malinois police dogs that were trained in narcotics detection by K-9 Global Training Academy. This acquisition was made possible through a Federal Grant Program and with the use of drug funds resulting from seizures by the Byron Police Department. | The Investigations Division is responsible to determine and document the circumstances of any crimes committed within the city limits and to take follow-up actions to identify, detain, and arrest the perpetrators of these crimes. Division personnel may investigate felony and misdemeanor crimes that run the gamut from shoplifting to homicide. These personnel receive training to keep pace with the newest technology and utilize the appropriate resources and techniques to solve crimes committed within the City. | ||
The Narcotics Unit was created to combat the influx of illegal drugs being used, sold, transported and stored in and around Byron.
This unit investigates illegal narcotic activity and is partnered with the Peach County Sheriff's Office. This unit continues to have a strong working relationship with surrounding cities and counties and is proud to have a good working relationship with State and Federal agencies, such as the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and Alcohol and Tobacco and Firearms (ATF). The unit also supports the Byron ICE Unit with cases that often cross state lines.
The Narcotics Unit receives support as necessary from the Byron Police Department and the Peach County Sheriff's Emergency Response Team (SERT) Unit.

| The Byron Police Department and the Peach County Sheriff's Office have a joint Sheriff's Emergency Response Team (SERT). The team is comprised of 24 highly skilled and specially equipped officers. The SERT Team is utilized during critical incidents such as barricaded gunmen, hostage negotiations, and high risk entry for search/arrest warrant service. The Training Unit supplies both in-service and specialized training to the officers of the department. This training includes firearms and tactical training. All officers are required to complete in-service training each year as well as specialized training in areas including taser, defensive tactics, firearms, and legal updates. All outside training is coordinated through the training unit. Officer Larry Moore is the training coordinator for all training within the department.
